Chopping the pot

Q: Does SimpleTourneyManager have anything built-in to help determine a fair breakdown of prize pool money when players want to chop the pot?

A: No, mainly because I don't want to put myself in the position of saying what's "fair" between a number of poker players. Also, in my opinion, any "mathematically fair" method that could be developed could not effectively consider:

  • The relative skill levels of the players (if I feel I'm a better player, I would not want settle for a mathematically fair chop), or

  • The value of having your opponent out chipped, even by just a small amount

Additionally, chopping between more than 2 players adds even more non-mathematical variables to the mix.

And then there's the last reason, which is that I think negotiating the chop is the players responsibility and offers the skilled player another opportunity to outplay his/her opponent.

That said, here's a link to a spreadsheet that one of our members created for this purpose. Feel free to give it a try if you'd like. Thanks, ProfessorNit, for allowing me to link to it.
